ENDV 102 INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL ECOLOGY II (2,1,2)
The course deals with basic processes governing the geographic distribution of biota and soils of the world. Topics include the concept of ecosystem, bio-geochemical cycles, distribution of world vegetation and soils; soil erosion and conservation of world forests and soils. Special emphasis is on human appropriation of the environmental resources and their implications for socio-economic development in Ghana and Africa.
ENDV 104 INTRODUCTION TO PHYSICAL ENVIRONMANETAL SYSTEMS II (2,1,2)
This is the sequel to the first semester counterpart. In this course students will further be introduced to the complex aspects of the physical environmental systems. However, unlike the first semester, emphasis will be placed on geomorphic systems, hydrologic cycle and basic climatologic processes in the atmosphere. Soil forming processes and major soil groups of Ghana will also be explored. All these are explored in terms of how they impact on development.
ENDV 106 ELEMENTS OF ECONOMICS II (2,1,2)
This course deals with the general introduction of macroeconomics or aggregate economics. Topics covered in this part of the course include: national income: definitions and determination; national income equilibrium; fluctuations in economic activities, national income measurement approaches and problem, money: definition, role and functions; money supply and monetary policy analysis and of taxation; nature and types of taxation, government revenue and expenditure; fiscal and public policy analysis and implications, basic theories of international trade and internal balance of payments analysis.
ENDV 108 INTRODUCTION TO DEVELOPMENT STUDIES (2,1,2)
Using case studies from Africa and around the world and particularly from Ghana, this course examines the basic theories of development, changes in societies and cultures as a consequence of the incorporation of local cultures and economies into a global economic system driven by capitalism. Attention is given to the peasantry (indigenous and non-indigenous), and to cultural changes due to processes such as globalization, economic and technological change, population pressures and the availability of land, the commercialization of agriculture, colonization programs, Indigenous rights movements, migration, and urbanization.
ENDV 110 INTRODUCTION TO POPULATION STUDIES II (2,1,2)
In this sequel, students would learn the evolution of the study of Population statistics, global population growth, levels and trends as well as considers various population theories such as the classical Malthusian theory and the population debate would be studies. The demographic transition theory & the epidemiological transition as well as population policy issues will be discussed. It also discusses population composition and distributions, contemporary population growth and economic development and their contrasting implications for advanced countries (ACs) and developing countries (DCs).
COMP 154 INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS II (2,1,2)
Spreadsheet Software: Microsoft EXCEL; Relational Database Software: Microsoft Power point, ACCESS will be examined.
STAT 156: STATISTICAL METHODS II (2, 1, 2)
Some Special Probability Distributions: Binomial, Poisson, Geometric Multinomial, Hyper geometric, Normal and Exponential distributions. Inferential Analysis of Data: Sampling Methods; Sampling Distributions of the Means and Proportions, Standard Errors; The Use and Reading of Normal (Z), t -, F and Chi-Square (X2) Distributions, Tables in Inferential Analysis. Point and Interval Estimation of Parameters; Means and Proportions. Hypothesis Testing – Significance of Tests for Means and Proportions using Z-, t-, and F-Distributions; One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Analysis of Categorical Data: Chi-Square Tests for Goodness-of-Fit and Independence. Regression Analysis: Basic Concepts of Regression and Correlation Analysis; Scatter Diagram, Correlation Coefficient and its Interpretation; Simple Linear Regression Model, Estimation of Regression Parameters and Coefficient of Determination. Use of Statistical Software for Statistical Analysis: Excel, SPSS, MINITAB, SAS, GENSTAT, etc will be explored.
ENGL 158 LEXIS AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS II (2,1,2)
This course is designed to continue the process of enhancing communication skills of students to become better users of the English language. The first part of the course will focus on writing skills– paragraphs, and then essays. Students shall also study the preparation of technical documents such as memos, reports, letters and proposals.
